Talk Sex Today Wood Lake
Does talking about sex with your children and teens stress you out? Don't worry, you're in good company. During this open and informational session, parents will explore sexual health, and understand how it fits into the lives of their kids at every stage of life. Attendees will discover how to easily overcome embarrassment when talking about sexual health, learn words and concepts that are easy to use, and leave well equipped to clearly answer the questions children and teens ask. The workshop is light hearted, but delivers the straight goods on how parents can empower their kids to make smart sexual decisions for a lifetime.

Some of the topics to be covered in the presentation include:
  • Reasons why we need to talk to children about sexual health at a young age
  • How to reduce risk of child sexual abuse
  • 5 stages of sexual development children and teens progress through on their way to becoming sexually mature adults
  • What children should know at each stage, with specific examples of ways to explain body parts and processes
  • How to provide information to children and teens in a way they will understand and remember (and minimize embarrassment for the parent!)
  • How to effectively answer even the toughest questions children and teens ask
  • Discussion of topics such as internet safety, pornography, gender identity and consent.

Talk Sex TodayAs technology evolves faster than kids grow up, parents are often left scrambling to decide how and when to talk to their kids about sex, and exactly what to say. Many don't understand gender identity, sexting, bullying, or internet safety enough to be an authority on it, let alone help their children navigate it. Cue Talk Sex Today: What Kids Need to Know and How Adults Can Teach Them, by Saleema Noon and Meg Hickling. This critical how-to guide is the modern parent's Hail Mary to everything sex-and sexual-health related.

Wow! Talk Sex Today surpassed all my expectations ... Saleema has such a gift for delivering material many of us – including myself – find awkward in a humorous, accessible and thoughtful way. Covering everything from the scientific facts to gender identity to internet exposure and so much more. I truly believe this is the only book parents will ever need to educate themselves and their kids on sexual health. – Cea Sunrise Person, bestselling author of North of Normal

Talk Sex Today is teeming with valuable information about sexual health (or body science as the author calls it). The book lays out a general curriculum for appropriate information about sexuality for different ages. It includes sections on kids with special needs, managing the internet, sexualized violence and other important topics. It's an easy read and one that would be helpful for parents, teachers and others who wish to learn how to talk about sex with young people. – Dr. Farah Shroff, Faculty Member, Department of Family Practice and School of Population and Public Health at UBC
